Real “Storeys” Inspiration

Buidling Resilience

Ms Rajani is a single mother who used to be in a physically and emotionally abusive marriage. Her ex- husband was incarcerated most of the time during their marriage. After the passing of her father, whom she was very close to, Ms Rajani also became the primary caregiver of her mother who has multiple health complications. Despite being a school drop-out and living in a rental flat, Ms Rajani built capabilities to further her studies in the special needs education sector and sought employment to support her family. Ms Rajani is part of SINDA’s Project Athena – a programme that aims to empower single Indian parents to become confident, independent and resilient individuals through various activities for the parents and sports activities for the children. She also goes the extra mile to be a positive influence on her daughter, nieces and nephews to tackle the problem of inter-generational offending by being a good role model to them. Recently, the Singapore Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) hosted Indian Women of the Year Awards 2019 and Ms Ranjani won the Herculean Award.
